5 Things I Wish I Knew Before Starting My L&D Entrepreneurial Journey: A Look Back, Filled With Memories & Learnings
From the desk of Neelu Jain, CEO of Khrysalis Training & Consultancy LLP
The world of L&D entrepreneurship is a magical place. It’s a roller coaster ride filled with unexpected twists, turns, and moments of pure exhilaration. Like any grand adventure, it also comes with its own set of challenges.
As I look back on my journey, I find myself reflecting on a few things I wish I had known from the start. These are golden nuggets of experience I want to share with all the aspiring entrepreneurs out there, brimming with dreams and ready to take the plunge to start their journey.
1. Start Small, Dream Big
We launched Khrysalis Training & Consultancy LLP back in 2016 with a simple idea: to make high-quality L&D solutions accessible to everyone. Grand visions need a launchpad, right? What we didn’t anticipate was how much we would learn by starting small instead of trying to achieve too many things at once. Focusing on a niche (soft skills, leadership training) allowed us to refine our approach and build a strong foundation. Remember, a plane doesn’t take off from a mountaintop – it needs that initial runway!
2. Learning Never Stops
Being an L&D professional is like being a lifelong learner. Each of us at Khrysalis have a strong background in HR, NLP, executive coaching, storytelling, corporate training experience, multiple certifications, that provides a strong base. As the need for people development is constantly evolving, we continuously upgrade our skills to stay relevant and passionately keep driving the transformative power of L&D.
3. Embrace the Disruptions
Let’s face it, the L&D landscape isn’t static. There will be bumps and unexpected turns! The key is to accept these disruptions and take them as opportunities to innovate, adapt, and maybe even discover a whole new perspective.
4. Build Awareness
Early on, we naively thought our skills would win clients, but the L&D market is crowded. To stand out, we researched competitors’ offerings and identified unmet needs, got real-time feedback from our clients, and then built Khrysalis’s services to fill those gaps. We curate & customize interventions which helps us add value and be most preferred training partner for clients. We also stay on top of industry trends, and adapted with new training methodologies, to develop innovative programs.
5. Constant Evolution is Key
The most magical thing about this journey is the constant evolution. Like any business the L&D industry is dynamic and evolving, and so should our approach be. By staying curious, experimenting with new methods, and embracing feedback, we ensure our offerings stay relevant and impactful.
Looking Back With Gratitude
Looking back, this journey of 8+ years has been a whirlwind of emotions – thrilling, challenging, and highly rewarding. And through it all, I’m so grateful for the incredible support I’ve received from mentors, clients, and my amazing team.
If you’re considering an entrepreneurial journey, take my advice: believe in yourself, be ready to learn and adapt, and most importantly, never stop growing and start small, dream big. Remember, the magic happens outside your comfort zone.
With gratitude,
Neelu Jain
