FOMO!!

February 16, 2024 , Blog

With information and connectivity on our fingertips, we have access to everything. We are hooked on to the internet and the world 24/7 and have the urge to constantly stay updated.

➡️ Looking at someone’s success and achievements can make us feel incompetent.

➡️ Not getting enough likes or comments on posts on social media can make us have the urge of deleting it or doing something extraordinary to grab the attention.

➡️ Constantly checking updates, missing out on the real life to be on the reel life can be a huge concern that others can see and we can’t.

➡️ Not being invited to a gathering/meeting / discussion can lower down our self esteem.

This is what happens when we have the Fear of Missing Out!

Living in FOMO makes our happiness dependent on the external forces, if things move in our favour we feel competent and happy and when it doesn’t, it makes us feel ruined.

While it’s important to stay relevant and visible, over doing it ruins our present and relationships around us as we crave to be in the lime light and stay updated all the time.

Here is how you can draw the line and overcome FOMO:

➡️ Get involved only when required in discussions and meetings, accept it and let go when not needed

➡️ Schedule time for activities especially social media, mails, chats can help us restrict ourselves to constantly stay updated

➡️ Get involved in things that make you happy, pick up a sport, hobby. Redirect the time and energy into something constructive

Let’s consciously help ourselves transition from FOMO to JOMO- Joy of Missing Out!

How do you ensure you stop yourself from getting into the fear of missing out?

What are some of the things that have worked for you? Would love hear in the comments below.
